Job Title: Sous Chef
Location: Newbury
Salary: £38,500 per annum + tronc £250–£350+ per month
Contract Type: Full time, permanent
Hours: 50 hours per week / 5-day week: Wednesday to Sunday (Mondays & Tuesdays off)

Our client is an independent business operating pubs, restaurants, coffee shops, and farm shops, as well as serving online and wholesale customers. Since opening in 2014, they now run 14 sites across Berkshire and Hampshire, with strong community-led values and a people-first approach that sets them apart from competitors. 

The Sous Chef position is based in a cosy yet contemporary gastro pub nestled in Donnington Village, offering a beautiful riverside setting and a welcoming atmosphere. The kitchen focuses on delivering seasonal, honest food that lets quality ingredients shine.
We’re looking for a capable and motivated Sous Chef to join the team and help run a small but busy kitchen. Working alongside a full-time CDP and supported by the Executive Chef (who designs the core menus), you’ll play a key role in the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen.

Responsibilities

• Lead service and manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
• Oversee prep, stock control, and ordering
• Create 1–2 weekly specials within existing purchasing guidelines
• Maintain high standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety

• £38,500 per annum
• Tronc £250–£350+ per month

• Experience as a Sous Chef (or a strong CDP ready to step up)
