HR Business Partner

Job Description

Are you an experienced HR professional with a deep understanding of the Public Sector or Local Authority landscape? Our client is looking for a proactive and driven HR Business Partner to join their team.

This is a highly visible role where you will act as a trusted advisor to a diverse customer base, including schools and local government partners. You will work closely with the Head of People to deliver both operational excellence and strategic HR initiatives in a commercially focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Expert Advisory: Provide high-quality, proactive advice on a full range of HR matters, ensuring compliance with complex employment law and varied terms and conditions.
  • Complex Casework: Lead on high-level employee relations cases, including gross misconduct, collective grievances, suspensions, and complex investigations.
  • Organizational Change: Support and advise on complex change management projects.
  • Hearings & Appeals: Act as the lead HR advisor during formal hearings and appeals, including sickness absence and disciplinary panels.
  • Policy & Development: Contribute to the review and development of HR/OD policies, ensuring they remain fit for purpose and aligned with legislative changes.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build credible relationships with managers.
  • Training & Coaching: Design and deliver HR training workshops to upskill managers on recruitment, selection, and performance management.

What you’ll bring:

  • Professional Qualification: CIPD Level 5 or 7 is highly desirable. We also welcome applications from candidates with significant equivalent experience who are currently working toward these qualifications.
  • Sector Experience: Proven experience, ideally within a Local Authority, Public Sector, or Education environment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong experience in job evaluation, DBS risk assessments, and the interpretation of complex HR data.
  • Communication: Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and work collaboratively with trade unions.
