This is a senior leadership role designed for someone who enjoys a blend of high-level financial strategy and the "roll-up-your-sleeves" reality of managing a day-to-day finance function. The Role Reporting directly to the senior leadership team, you will lead the finance function to ensure the business operates with strong financial governance and commercial visibility. Your primary focus will be to provide structured financial leadership, strengthening the internal reporting framework to support the business as it scales. You will act as a key advisor to the board, ensuring that financial strategy is closely aligned with the company’s broader commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Departmental Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, setting clear performance expectations and high professional standards.
Management Reporting: Own the end-to-end preparation of monthly management accounts, providing the Board with clarity on performance through detailed variance analysis .
Financial Planning & Analysis: Lead the annual budgeting process and implement rolling 12-month cash flow forecasting to provide long-term financial visibility.
Commercial Partnership: Work closely with procurement and operations to maintain margin visibility, manage rebate governance, and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
Process Optimisation: Identify and implement improvements to finance systems and internal controls to drive operational efficiency.
Statutory Compliance: Oversee all essential compliance functions, including VAT submissions, payroll, pensions, and year-end accounting processes
Governance: Maintain a robust financial control framework aligned with the company’s core operating principles.
About You We are looking for a candidate who is calm under pressure, commercially disciplined, and a confident communicator at the Board level.
Experience: Proven senior finance leadership experience within an SME environment.
Qualifications: Fully / part-qualified or 7+ years of experience (Qualified by Experience)
Technical Skills: Advanced Excel and financial modelling capabilities.
Experience with Sage 200 or similar ERP systems is highly desirable.
Approach: A track record of implementing financial governance frameworks and driving process improvements.
