Job Title: Deputy Bar Manager
Location: Prestigious College in Oxford
Salary: £12.60 per hour 
Contract Type: Part time, permanent 
Hours: Up to 30 hours per week, 5 days out of 7, including weekend work and some late nights
The Role
Pineapple Recruitment is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Deputy Bar Manager to refresh and bring sparkle to the College Crypt Bar at a prestigious college in Oxford. This is a unique opportunity to lead a welcoming, inclusive, and profitable bar operation at the heart of the college community.
In addition to managing the Crypt Bar, the successful candidate will organise temporary ‘pop-up’ bars for student and conference events. Reporting to the Front of House Manager and trained by the Bar Manager, you’ll play a key role in supporting both the Bar Manager and the wider Front of House team.
You’ll oversee day-to-day operations, deliver exceptional customer service, and manage bar administration including invoicing, finances, and stock control.
Key responsibilities
	- Ensure all alcohol service complies with the College’s Premises Licence.
 
	- Support the Bar Manager in managing the wine cellar and liaise with the SCR Wine Fellow as needed.
 
	- Receive and store beverage deliveries in line with licensing requirements.
 
	- Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the bar and wine cellar.
 
	- Ensure health and safety compliance across bar operations.
 
	- Coordinate arrangements for special events, including temporary bar setups.
 
	- Conduct monthly and annual stocktakes of the wine cellar.
 
	- Order and rotate bar and wine stock appropriately.
 
	- Record and manage all stock transfers.
 
	- Prepare wines for events and manage returns under ‘sale or return’ agreements.
 
	- Maintain accurate wine transaction records.
 
	- Act as the ‘responsible person’ for special events, ensuring licensing compliance.
 
	- Provide wine costing sheets and cellar slips to relevant departments for invoicing.
 
	- Advise the Domestic Bursar on pricing and cost-effective beverage provision.
 
	- Deputise for the Bar Manager when required.
 
	- Provide bar cover during conference season and vacation periods.
 
	- Work additional hours at special events (with overtime pay, as agreed in advance).
 
Requirements:
	- Relevant experience in a college or catering establishment.
 
	- Personal licence holder.
 
	- Strong knowledge of craft cocktails, spirits, wine, and beer.
 
	- Experience with cash handling.
 
	- Understanding of liquor, stock, and margin control.
 
	- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
 
	- Strong time management and organisational abilities.
 
	- High standards of personal and food hygiene.
 
	- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
 
	- Flexible and able to perform under pressure.
 
	- Basic IT/computer skills.
 
	- Positive, trustworthy, reliable, enthusiastic, and self-motivated.
 
	- Proven track record of delivering high-level customer service.
 
	- Ability to prioritise tasks during busy periods.
