Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week on a flexible rota basis

About the Role

Our client is looking for an enthusiastic and talented Demi Chef de Partie to join their diverse and creative catering team within a prestigious Cambridge University setting. As part of a large, structured kitchen brigade, you will assist the Chef de Partie and Head Chef in delivering high-quality dishes for a variety of catering services, including formal events, receptions, daily meals, and buffets.

This role provides the perfect opportunity to grow and develop your culinary skills in an environment that encourages creativity and teamwork. You’ll get hands-on experience in contributing to menu development, learning from senior chefs, and working with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting in Cooking: Support the Chef de Partie in preparing and cooking a variety of dishes while ensuring consistent quality in presentation and flavor.
  • Section Support: Help manage specific kitchen sections (e.g., grill, sauces, pastry), ensuring high standards of preparation and service are maintained.
  • Creative Input: Contribute ideas during menu planning and adapt dishes to suit different dietary needs.
  • Quality and Safety: Ensure compliance with all food hygiene and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Mentorship: Assist in training junior kitchen staff, offering guidance to help them grow in their roles.
  • Stock Monitoring: Help manage stock, assisting with inventory checks, and ensuring freshness and minimal waste.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and passionate Demi Chef de Partie with the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Experience: Previous experience as a Commis Chef or Demi Chef de Partie in a busy, high-volume kitchen.
  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 in Professional Cookery (or equivalent). An NVQ Level 3 qualification would be beneficial.
  • Skills: Good organizational skills, an ability to multitask, and excellent teamwork. You should be able to work under pressure and independently when needed.
  • Creativity: A passion for creating new dishes and an interest in experimenting with flavors and techniques.
  • Flexibility: Willing to work a flexible rota, including evenings and weekends as required.
