Commis Sommelier

Job Description

Our client is a 5* Hotel, Restaurant and Spa, where people work to support, understand and respect each other and the guests whilst providing an excellent standard in everything they do. Our client offers support, training and development opportunities to help your career flourish.
We are looking for a dedicated and hard working Commis Sommelier who will be responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of the hotel on a full time, permanent contract, working 45 hours per week, 5 out of 7 days. As a 365 day business you may be required to work evenings/weekends/bank holidays.

The role

The right candidate will be required to assist the Sommelier and organize the team in all their duties; ensure the cleanliness of all areas; equipment and glassware; be able to serve and recommend beverages in the correct manner; study and improve their knowledge of wines; assist in the coaching and training of staff.

Main responsibilities

-ensure each service is organized and prepared for in a professional manner
-ensure all equipment is cleaned, maintained and cared for on a daily basis
-ensure all wine lists are updated and maintained to the highest standard
-monitor and control stock levels, usage, requisitions and pricing of wines
-communicate all feedback, issues and compliments and to effectively deal with them as necessary
-attend and arrange training sessions, tastings and seminars where possible to assist the Sommelier
-assist in the selling and promoting of the hotel and its services through wine events, accolades and competitions where required
-keep the cellars and storage areas neat, tidy and safe as per company regulations
-abide by Health and Safety Regulations as required by Law
-respond to any other reasonable management request

About you

The right candidate will have a real passion for wine, will be confident and will have a qualification of WSET with experience, preferably within a 4/5* Hotel environment.
