Hours: An average of 36.5 hours per week, with a rota that includes evenings and weekends.
About the Role
A busy college in Cambridge is looking for a Commis Chef to join its kitchen team to provide a full catering service. This role is ideal for a motivated individual with some practical experience who is ready to contribute to a professional kitchen environment and work collaboratively with a team.
Help maintain the standards and organization of various kitchen sections under the supervision of senior chefs.
Assist with the preparation, cooking, and presentation of all dishes to the highest standards.
Ensure all kitchen areas, equipment, and storage are kept clean and tidy.
Work efficiently and safely while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and food safety.
Ensure prepared food is stored correctly with proper temperature checks and labeling.
Provide cover for a section chef when required.
Be aware of food allergies and the appropriate measures to deal with them.
Liaise effectively with other team members, including Front of House, staff from other departments, and external delivery staff.
Experience: Some practical experience working in a busy kitchen or catering environment is required, along with experience working as part of a team.
Skills: The ideal candidate can maintain high levels of service and hygiene, work well under pressure, and has strong attention to detail. A willingness to be flexible and collaborative is also essential.
Attributes: You should be honest, reliable, and hardworking, with a smart appearance and good personal hygiene. Knowledge of basic food hygiene and COSHH is a plus.
