Commercial Director

Job Description
Our Client is a large contract catering company operating in educational sector.

The Commercial Director role is a key leadership position within the company, partnering with the MD to develop and execute the commercial strategy with a strong focus on the financial performance of the business. This hands-on role is instrumental in shaping the future direction of the business, ensuring sustainable growth and profitability while upholding finance standards and integrity. The successful candidate will be expected to continue the development of the commercial finance function in providing the required support to the business while its team members balance progression of their finance careers.

Key Responsibilities:

● Partner with the Managing Director to develop and implement the overall commercial strategy of the business
● Ownership of the monthly management accounts, both P&L and balance sheet, to ensure that they are accurate, timely and efficiently completed
● Overall responsibility for annual budget and forecast process encompassing in depth analysis on financial performance against established targets
● Manage the review and negotiation of commercial contracts, ensuring legal protection for the company in delivering contracted services to clients
● Support and manage the commercial team to motivate and foster a high performance culture, and set clear expectations
● Identify and monitor key commercial initiatives to enhance business performance and implement change
● Maintain a deep understanding of business performance, both financial and operational, by cultivating key relationships and leveraging insightful reporting
● Ownership of financial control and governance of P&L and balance sheet with adherence to accounting principles and company policies
● Lead on cross functional projects, ensuring collaboration and successful completion within required timescales
● Support the Finance Director in reporting to the board, managing cashflow, preparing the company’s accounts for audits and deputising as required

Required Skills and Experience:

● Qualified accountant with 5+ years PQE
● Experience leading and developing finance teams
● Experience partnering senior stakeholders with the ability to challenge, influence and persuade at all levels
● Excellent communication skills – ability to communicate oral and written information clearly and effectively
● Highly numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail
● Proactive with the ability to plan and organise work
● Driver of innovation and improvement
● Ability to manage multiple priorities and working collaboratively with cross functional teams
● Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to the company's values
