Hours: An average of 36.5 hours per week, with a rota that includes evenings and weekends.
About the Role
A busy college in Cambridge is looking for a Chef de Partie to join its kitchen team to provide a full catering service. This role is ideal for a motivated individual with experience who is ready to take responsibility for a section of the kitchen while working collaboratively with a team.
Run a section of the kitchen, taking responsibility for the workload and organizing ordering with the help of the Storekeeper.
Assist with the preparation, cooking, and presentation of all dishes to the highest standards.
Ensure all kitchen areas, equipment, and storage are kept clean and tidy.
Work efficiently and safely while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and food safety.
Ensure prepared food is stored correctly with proper temperature checks and labeling.
Provide cover for a section chef when required.
Be aware of food allergies and the appropriate measures to deal with them.
Liaise effectively with other team members, including Front of House, staff from other departments, and external delivery staff.
Qualifications: Essential qualifications include City & Guilds 706/1 or NVQ 1, and a basic food hygiene certificate. Completion of or working towards NVQ 2 is also required. Desirable qualifications include City & Guilds 706/2, NVQ 3, Level 2 Safety Awareness, and an Intermediate food hygiene certificate.
Experience: Some practical experience working in a busy kitchen or catering environment is required. Experience working as part of a team is essential, and good customer service skills are a plus.
Skills: The ideal candidate can maintain high levels of service and hygiene, work well under pressure, and has strong attention to detail. A willingness to be flexible and collaborative is also essential.
Attributes: You should be honest, reliable, and hardworking, with a smart appearance and good personal hygiene. Knowledge of COSHH in a similar environment is desirable.
